Rise in Modern Slavery cases- The biggest Human Rights issue of our generation

Posted 20 April 2018

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has published statistics that show a rise of 36% of Modern Slavery claims for 2017. Of this figure, almost 50% of modern slavery claims were based on forced labour.

It is critical for supply chains to ensure that they are making steps to eradicate exploitation and have audited all areas thoroughly, but the challenge faced is do you know what to look for, what to audit and how to spot if your supply chain has been infiltrated.

At First Call Contract Services they have robust procedures in place to spot the signs of Modern Slavery, a detailed screening technique which is conducted for every single interview.

All internal staff complete a specific training course designed to safeguard vulnerable workers, this course is delivered by First Call’s Compliance Team, headed by the Compliance Director- David Segust.

David sits on the Brexit Labour Policy Sub-Group set up by The Association of Labour Providers and also holds a position on the GLAA labour user liaison group. This knowledge and the latest market insight obtained through these roles is then communicated with our internal teams.

David Mankelow First Call Contract Services CEO; “Forced labour and worker exploitation is the biggest Human Rights issue of our generation, First Call have invested to ensure that our workers, clients and our business meets the highest standards to protect everyone in the supply chain. I am extremely proud of the work that our teams do to combat and stamp out modern slavery.’
